The Waldo Canyon fire took a turn for the worse today in Colorado Springs. A thunderstorm to the northwest caused a massive outflow of air down the front range. 65MPH winds, coupled with a local temperature of 101 degrees led to the “perfect storm”. The fire raced down an area known as Queens Canyon and into the city limits. Many homes have been lost and the call has gone out to fire departments up and down the front range. It is truly heart breaking to watch part of your city burn. I lived through this once before with the Cedar Fire in San Diego, it sure as hell is not easier the second time around. Please send thoughts and prayers to the city of Colorado Springs and the some 32,000 people forced from their homes tonight.
A fire started yesterday near Waldo Canyon. The fire has spread to over 2000 acres, and is currently not contained at all. I went up to Palmer Park to take some images. There is still a ton of haze in the air,so the pictures are not 100% sharp.
