I went over to the lake at lunch yesterday. There was a gentle snow coming down, and three herons were on the same end of the lake. They were more interested in the fisherman’s stringers than me, so I managed to get pretty close.

My first Great Blue Heron of 2013
This morning while I was capturing the sunrise at Quail Lake, I saw my first heron of the year. I went back and lunch and watched as he caught two trout. Lots of good ones in here, and lots of ones best seen in a series. So I apologize in advance for the number of images in the gallery.
Red Sunrise
It was an absolutely gorgeous sunrise this morning.
Fall Sunrise over Quail Lake
I was out of the house early this morning to try and catch the sunrise at Quail Lake. Not a lot of clouds for contrast, but it still looks good I think.
Wading Heron
wow, two Heron posts in a row! (he said with his tongue in his cheek)
Heron on the Dock
I made a stop by Quail Lake this morning. I was looking for the osprey my buddy Eddie saw the other day. Instead I saw this Great Blue Heron. I think he is a younger one, he did not bolt as soon as he saw my camera and he seems to not have all his more “ornate” feathers.
Fearless Heron
Finally, A Great Blue Heron at Quail Lake who did not bolt from me as soon as he saw me.
Herons in the Mist
There were 4 herons on one end of Quail Lake this morning. I managed to get two of them in a couple shots. I think they may have been the males of the two pairs, at one point they went at each other pretty good.
Blue Heron on a Grey Day
I was at Quail Lake for Lunch, the Herons were both there. I swear my wife has talked to these two birds, every time I get within 50′ they fly away. I managed to sneak up on one down in the corner by the dock.
Red Tailed Hawk Posing for me
Today I went out and lunch looking for the hawks. I found a couple of them, the one in the trees bolted as soon as I showed up. The other one was on the corner of an office building and let me shoot his picture as long as I stayed in the car. The wind was blowing up the side of the building and really ruffling his feathers.
